Tell Me More About the Greek Islands

Greek_island
There are actually over 6,000 different islands that make up what are called the Greek Islands. Out of those 6,000 islands only 227 of them are inhabited by a human population. Out of the 227 ones that have humans on them, only 78 of them have a human population that is larger than 100 people.
When you consider the size of the Greek Islands by area then the largest one of them is Crete. Crete is positioned at the southern edge of what is known as the Aegean Sea. Crete has an area that covers 3219 sq miles, and is over twice the size of the next biggest isle.
The first isle you want to see if you are visiting the Greek islands is not Crete, but Santorini. If the isles were categorized like they were gem stones, then Santorini would be the diamond of the bunch.
It is located in the Aegean Sea, and you can see magnificent villages that appear like perfect white sculptures perched precariously on the tops of the volcanic cliffs, that make a sharp, and straight decent into the waters below. Both shoppers and photographers will be entranced by the small village, and the beautiful sites to be found on this isle. Of all the villages on this isle Ia is the most beautiful, and irresistible of them all. You cannot visit this magnificent paradise without stopping here.
Crete may be the largest of all the isles but it is also the most diverse in habitats. You have beautiful beaches that are arid, and even have palm trees growing on them, and you have high mountain peaks forming the center, while the other side is covered in a lush growth of evergreens. If you cannot find something you like to do on the isle of Crete, then you are just impossible to please. There are historical landmarks to visit, clubs to go to, beaches to relax and soak up the sun on, shaded trails for hiking, and there is shopping, fine dining, and a lively nigh time scene.
Each one of the magnificent pieces of real estate, that are grouped together, and referred to as the Greek Islands, have unique histories, and intriguing sites to see. These pieces of property are a must, for anyone who enjoys greek island travel, to see. There are no other places on earth that are quite like them, and there are no places on earth where the culture is as rich, and the food and wine is as delectable, as on these isles.
